Sell books online without a monthly store fee
Pustak Ghar is a bookshop you own outright: a home page with featured books and shelves, a shop page with search, shelf filter and sorting, a page for every book, a cart and a checkout. Customers pay cash on delivery, by UPI or bank transfer, or pick up from the shop.
- Shelves for Exam & study, Children, Fiction, Stationery and Gifts
- Book pages with pages, language, age group and edition
- Sub-shelves by class, exam or genre
- Coupon codes for school-season offers
School season, handled
Many bookshops do a big part of their year in school season. The home page asks parents to send the school list on WhatsApp, and the about page shows the four steps from list to packed set. Customers write the class and subjects in the order note for practice paper bundles.
- School list and bulk order section
- Four-step list-to-delivery explainer
- Class and subjects in the order note
- Delivery, pick-up and returns page (sample text)
A story hour that brings families in
A weekly read-aloud session is a simple way to bring families back to the shop. The story hour page explains the age groups and the format, and parents book a seat with a date and time. School visits and birthday sessions go through the same form.
- Two age groups you can rename
- Booking form with date and time
- Four-step 'how it works'
- Photo gallery of the reading corner
Run the shop from the admin
Products, orders and customers live in a database: SQLite is built in, MySQL is optional. On first run it is filled with the demo products, which you edit or delete in Admin → Shop. Every price, discount, delivery charge, fee, tax and total is recalculated on the server when an order is placed, and an order whose total was changed in the browser is refused.
- Products with photos, gallery, variants, sale price and stock
- Coupons: percent or fixed, minimum spend, expiry and usage limits
- Shipping zones and tax rates by country or region
- Orders: status, tracking, status emails, invoice and CSV export
Where orders and story hour bookings go
Book orders appear in Admin → Shop → Orders and are emailed to you and the customer; add a tracking number and link when a parcel leaves, print the invoice and export orders to CSV. Story hour seats, school visits and birthday session enquiries come through the contact form system instead: they are saved in the admin's Enquiries inbox and emailed to you, with the age group, date and time the parent picked. In the admin you also set your shop name, phone, WhatsApp, address, hours and currency. Everything runs on PHP 7.4 or later on cPanel hosting, with SQLite created on first run, and your licence key switches checkout and forms on.
- Orders with tracking, invoice and CSV export
- Story hour bookings in the Enquiries inbox
- Optional customer accounts page
- One licence key for up to three domains
What it does not do
Pustak Ghar does not look up books by ISBN or import a publisher catalogue: you add each book in the admin. School lists are sent on WhatsApp or by email, not uploaded in the checkout. It does not take card payments on its own: Razorpay, Stripe, PayPal and Cashfree are separate add-ons with their own licence, tested against mocked gateway responses, not real payments. The demo titles are made up; add the books you sell, with photos you are allowed to use.
- Built in: COD, UPI QR, bank transfer, shop pickup
- Books: added by you in the admin
- School lists: on WhatsApp or email
