What it does
Keeps the exchange rates of the currencies you have switched on in a Code Craft HTML + PHP website up to date. Once a day it fetches rates for your base currency from a free source that needs no API key (Frankfurter, or open.er-api.com) and uses them for your switched-on currencies, with an optional markup. If a fetch fails, the last good rates are kept, and once they are too old your own manual rates are used again. It never switches a currency on by itself. Orders still record the currency and rate used. Tested against a mocked rate source, not the live services.

Works with
This add-on is for every Code Craft HTML + PHP website (site core 1.1 or later), shops and other templates. It is sold separately and has its own licence key. Upload its folder into the website's addons/ folder and switch it on in Admin → Add-ons; no code changes.
- Site core 1.1 or later
- Drop-in folder, no code changes
- Its own settings screen and licence key
Who it is for
It is for owners of a Code Craft HTML + PHP website that shows prices in more than one currency, shops and other templates alike, who would rather not update exchange rates by hand. You switch on currencies and set a manual rate for each in Admin → Currency; this add-on then keeps the rates current and falls back to your manual rates whenever it has nothing fresh. It needs no account and no API key, only outgoing internet access from your hosting.
- Any Code Craft HTML + PHP site, core 1.1+
- No API key or sign-up
- Outgoing HTTPS from your hosting
Settings and the Exchange rates screen
In the add-on's Settings you choose the rate source: Frankfurter (the default, European Central Bank reference rates, about 30 currencies including INR, USD, EUR, GBP, AUD, CAD, SGD and JPY) or open.er-api.com (ExchangeRate-API open access, 160+ currencies, attribution requested). Pick open.er-api.com if Frankfurter does not publish your base currency. You can add a markup from -20 to 50 per cent and set how many days (1 to 30, default 3) fetched rates may be used without a fresh fetch. Admin → Add-ons → Exchange rates lists your manual rate next to the rate in use, the last update, the source and any error, with a Fetch rates now button.
- Two free sources
- Markup percentage
- Maximum age of fetched rates
- Fetch rates now button
How the daily fetch works
The fetch runs after a page has been sent to a visitor, at most once every 24 hours and once an hour after a failure, so nobody waits for it. For sites with few visitors, the settings screen shows a private cron URL (with a key) that you can call from cPanel → Cron Jobs. Fetched rates are applied only to currencies you have switched on; the add-on never switches a currency on by itself, and your saved manual rates are not overwritten. If fetches keep failing, the last good rates are used until they are older than your limit, then the manual rates come back.
- Runs after the page is sent
- Optional cron URL with a key
- Manual rates stay as the fallback
Honest limits
The rates are reference rates for showing prices; they are not what a payment gateway or the customer's bank charges, and each order still records the currency and rate used when it was placed. It was tested on local copies of the Kora and Pustak templates with real PHP 8.3, with both sources answered by a mock server: switched-off currencies left alone, markup, the second source, a failed fetch, the age limit, the cron URL and the licence check. No real rates API was called in testing.
- Reference rates for display
- Mocked sources in testing
- open.er-api.com asks for attribution
