Service businesses need a site that explains what they do, shows proof, lists prices and makes it easy to get in touch. Halden gives you those pages as ready-made block patterns: insert one, change the words and pictures, and move on. Because Halden is a block theme, you edit the header, footer, templates and styles in the WordPress Site Editor with the same blocks you already use for posts. There is no page builder to install, no shortcodes and no theme options screen, so your content keeps working if you ever change themes.
- Home page assembled from 8 patterns, ready to edit
- Inner pages built from the same patterns in any order
- Header and footer are template parts you edit visually
- Works with any plugin that provides blocks, such as forms
Every pattern, explained
Halden has 14 patterns in two inserter categories, Halden: Sections and Halden: Pages. The hero is a full-width cover image with an eyebrow, a large heading, text and two buttons. Numbers row shows four figures with labels. Services grid has six numbered cards. Image and text pairs a portrait image with a heading, paragraph, checkmark list and button. Values with image shows four short benefits beside a square image. Process steps lays out four steps. Project highlights shows three case-study cards with images. The pricing table has three packages, each with a price, description, checkmark list and button. The FAQ uses native Details blocks, so answers open without any script. Call to action is a dark rounded banner with a button, Contact details pairs your message with a card for address, hours and email, Latest posts shows your three newest posts, Page header introduces inner pages, and Home page combines eight sections into a complete front page.
- Hero, Numbers row, Services grid, Image and text, Values with image
- Process steps, Project highlights, Pricing table, FAQ
- Call to action, Contact details, Latest posts, Page header, Home page
- Six of the theme's own images included so patterns look finished
Templates, styles and settings
Nine templates cover every page type: front page, blog home, index, archive, search results, page, page without title (for full-width layouts built from patterns), single post with comments and post navigation, and a 404 page with search. The header has your site logo, site title, navigation and a button, and stays visible when scrolling; on small screens the navigation becomes a menu button. All design settings live in theme.json: a seven-colour palette, six fluid font sizes, six spacing sizes, a soft shadow, a 720-pixel content width and a 1,240-pixel wide width. Choose between four style variations in Appearance, Editor, Styles: Halden (green), Harbor (blue), Ember (orange) and Sand (warm neutral), then fine-tune any colour or size. Two extra block styles are added: Card for groups and Checkmarks for lists.
- 9 templates and 2 template parts
- 4 style variations and a 7-colour palette
- Fluid typography and spacing scale
- Card group style and Checkmarks list style
Performance and accessibility
Halden adds one small stylesheet to what WordPress already loads for blocks, and no JavaScript of its own. The Manrope variable font is bundled with the theme and served from your own site, so there are no requests to Google Fonts. Images in the patterns are compressed WebP files. Headings follow a logical order, buttons and links have visible focus outlines, the FAQ uses native disclosure elements that work with a keyboard and screen readers, and hover animations are switched off for visitors who prefer reduced motion. Every visible string in the patterns is translation-ready through the halden text domain.
Install and requirements
Halden needs WordPress 7.1 or newer and PHP 7.4 or newer, on any host that can run WordPress. The download contains halden.zip (the theme), an illustrated installation guide as a PDF, a README and the licence. In WordPress admin go to Appearance, Themes, Add New Theme, Upload Theme, choose halden.zip and activate it. Your front page immediately shows the Home page pattern. Then open Appearance, Editor to change the text and images, set up your navigation, upload a logo and pick a style variation. We tested this exact zip by installing it into a fresh WordPress 7.1 site.
Honest limits
Halden needs WordPress 7.1 or newer because its blocks are saved in the latest block markup; it is not meant for older versions. It does not include a contact form, because block themes leave forms to plugins: add any form plugin and place its block in the Contact details pattern. It is not a WooCommerce theme and does not style shop pages; for a store, see our WooCommerce theme. There is no dark mode, no slider and no page builder integration. The pattern text, numbers, prices and projects are placeholders for you to replace, and the header button links to # until you set it. Strings are translation-ready, but no translation files are included yet. Halden 1.0.0 is a new release without a track record on many live sites.
Works well with Halden
Most stores running Halden pair it with these. Every plugin below shares the same licence system, coding standards and support team.
