Quick tips
Before you pick a shade
North-facing rooms
Warmer whites and creams stop a room with soft light from feeling grey.
Small rooms
Lighter walls with a slightly lighter ceiling make a room feel taller.
Feature walls
Pick the wall you see first when you walk in, often behind the sofa or bed.
Finish matters
Matt hides wall marks; satin and washable finishes are easier to wipe.
Look at it twice
Check a sample patch in morning daylight and again at night.
Exteriors
Very dark exterior colours absorb heat and may fade faster in strong sun.
